Well, today is Monday and we are on the move. We left the RV park in Bernalillo, N.M. (were we had been for 2 weeks) and pointed our truck south on 25 to hit 40 west. As we got on 40 all was going well and we were sailing along with the traffic. Suddenly our tire alarm went off and we had a tire on the trailer below 86 pounds of pressure. We usually run at 100 pounds of pressure. So we pulled over on the side of the road and Walt rechecked the pressure with a gauge and got the same measurement. So he got back in the truck and we headed for the next exit. Now it is not always easy to find a exit because they are far and between. Luckily we saw an exit on the horizon, so we drove slowly with our flashers on to that distant exit. When we stopped at a filling station Walt went in and asked were the next truck stop was located. They replied " an hour away". So we asked to put some air in the tire and found it had been vandalized and we could not use it. There was another station about a mile down the road so we got the pressure in the tire up to 100 pounds. It is really funny when you see more casinos than you see filling stations. We had seen about 5 since we left the park.
Well, we got back on 40 and headed west to Gallup. We checked the tire pressure about every 15 minutes and when were about at Gallup it started going down. Walt thinks it is a valve stem. The GPS says there is a Goodrich tire place in Gallup. We call the place and they said we could get into the lot. We failed to mention how long we are.
The GPS got us to the address and it was not the place -- we were on a busy city street with nowhere to go. So we called the Goodrich store and they gave us the real address. When we pulled into the lot we pretty well fill the space. There was no were to turn around.
We got service immediately and they took the tire off and put a new valve stem in the tire and put it back on the RV. It was a quick fix and not very expensive. Thank goodness we had the alarms on the tires so we found out about the low pressure before it killed the tire. We got these sensors on the tires but 2 do not work but we were lucky and the tire that went low had a sensor. So when we got settled this afternoon Walt ordered a new set of sensors. There is always something to fix whether it is a house or a house on wheels.
When we were ready to leave I got behind the wheel. Yes, I did the backing up into the street. YES--but I had Walt telling me what to do and one of the mechanics stopped the traffic. When we got on the street Walt took over and I went back to the passenger seat. As we started down the street I saw this large pot on the corner. They seem to have them at different places in Gallup.
These are some of the rock formations we saw as we drove to the R.V. Park. When we reached the address for the park we did not see a RV park anywhere so we gave another call but this time to the RV park. Yes, the GPS said they were located at Exit 26 but it really was Exit 16.
When we finally got to the park we were very pleased. We just put our jacks down, unhooked from the truck and plugged everything in and spread our wings. Spread our wings means we put the slides out.
We did not get at the park after dark I just took the picture at sunset.
At 4 pm we got in the truck to check out the local area. We are located on historic 66 so we covered the same area to the east as we had earlier in the afternoon. To the left of 66 is a busy railroad track, Route 40, scattered houses and cliffs. When we headed back to the park we had a beautiful sunset. Enjoy.
GOODNIGHT.
